Hello family. Have you watched the movie titled ABATTOIR?

It is an episode sectioned Christian movie produced by Mount Zion Faith Ministry. This movie is a must-watch! The movie was scripted by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye revealing a blend of Christian actors such as Kayode Owojori, who is a veteran Christian actor taking on the role of Chief Sanya alongside other actors.

Storyline: Martins Sanya (who seems to be the main character in the movie) was 15 years old but suddenly lost his mum, Mrs. Sanya through a calculated murder which took place right inside the house. She was discovered dying after being stabbed by an unknown person. The only people who were in the house was Martins, his parents and their house help, Bassey who his mum had fired a few hours before her death due to the loss of some amount of money. Bassey had insisted that he didn’t steal the money, and Mrs. Sanya ought to trust him considering that he had worked with the family for 10 years. Bassey was arrested for the murder, while Martins Sanya became a shadow of his former self, accused his father of being in cultism (after witnessing some confusing scenes that made him believe his father was an occult) and eventually left the house. He never spoke to his father until 15 years after, a period in which his new found life seemed to be under some threat due to his reaction to series of nightmares he was having, in which his mum was asking him to go back home.

Let’s dive in together and share some of the learning from Part 1 of the movie.

Lessons to learn

Lesson #1 “A gold fish cannot survive in salt water that is why you see a gold fish in an aquarium. Now, some of you are in a wrong environment”

This phrase was said by the teacher character, Martins Sanya, and this is so aptly put. A lot of people in life find themselves in situations that contradict the person they really are. The reasons for such are enormous. Reasons range from challenges, bad counsel, confusion, not knowing one’s purpose etc.

If you are a believer, you cannot be seen in an environment that would make your Christian journey toxic. Psalm 1: 1-4 says explains that ‘If you would want to be a fruit bearing tree that is always blossoming, then you cannot walk, sit or hang out in the wrong place”. So, if confusion, bad company etc. have taken you to the wrong place, it’s time to make the right decision by first identifying what the issues are. Are you where God wants you to be? As believers, allowing God to be in the lead of your life knocks out these sorts of confusion and makes your part tidier and easier to navigate through. Take a careful look at your life and check if indeed you are living a life of purpose or merely passing through life without accomplishing His purpose.

Lesson #2 “Nothing that is done in secret remains hidden forever.”

It is gradually appearing as if Chief Sanya was the one who murdered his wife, and most likely for occultic reasons too. He probably thought that all he did was carefully hidden and no one, not even his son would discover. But alas, everything seems to be out in the open.

The truth is that whatever one seeks to hide and cover up will eventually be revealed under the light. No one can hide injustice before God; it soon will come out in the open. Luke 12:2-3 points out that “For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.” Wow!

Lesson #3 ‘The Christian journey is not for lone-rangers. Have a mentor’

Martins Sanya left home distraught but his journey would not have been possible if not for Baba, the new father-figure in his life (acted by Moses Korede Are) who led him to Christ and followed up with him in the 15 years of being away from home.

A lot of believers think that they are fine just moving along the journey all by themselves. Well, truth be told, God did not plan for you to walk your walk alone…He keeps making provisions for you in various ways because He knows that you would need the support of other brethren to gear you on. The injunction of Jesus to all believers was to make disciples (Matt. 28:19-20) and the making of a disciple is not a one-day affair, it involves a diligent guidance from those who are also following Christ and have remained diligent along the path. There are various examples in the Bible and topmost of them would be the relationship of Paul/Silas, Paul/Timothy etc. (Other references Titus 2: 3-5; Proverbs 27: 17, 1 Corinthians 11:1).

As we await further episodes of this movie (you can catch the movie on Damilola Mike-Bamiloye’s YouTube channel), remember that you are an Heir (Romans 8:17) and as an Heir, you sure have an unbelievable inheritance which will come through for you both here on earth and in heaven above.
